Road Builders Association
The Nova Scotia Road Builders Association (NSRBA) has been supporting the province’s construction industry since 1947. Representing 175 member companies across heavy civil, marine, sewer and water construction—as well as industry suppliers—the Association plays an important role in building and maintaining the infrastructure Nova Scotians rely on every day.
Our members collectively employ more than 7,500 people annually, contributing an estimated $375 million in payroll to the provincial economy. From highways and bridges to water systems and marine projects, NSRBA members are behind the essential work that keeps communities connected and growing.
At its core, the Association exists to support its members through collaboration, advocacy, and shared knowledge. We bring together contractors, engineers, and industry partners to strengthen communication, improve standards, and ensure practical, effective approaches to construction across the province.
NSRBA works to promote consistency in contracts and specifications, encourage cooperation between all stakeholders, and support the efficient use of resources through shared equipment, collective purchasing, and industry best practices. We also advocate on behalf of our members, making representations to government and industry leaders to help shape a strong and sustainable construction sector.
Above all, we are committed to maintaining high standards in both construction and business practices, while fostering a spirit of cooperation and professionalism across the industry.
For more than 80 years, the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association and its members have played an integral role in building the province—and continue to help shape its future.
Our Goals
The objects for which the Association is established shall be as follows:
- To assemble information and data of use to contractors relating to the physical construction of roads and pavements and to make the same available for the use of member of the Association;
- Consideration of the form of contracts, specifications and bonds, and to make suitable representations to officials and corporations in regard thereto;
- To secure a useful measure of co-operation between contractors and engineers responsible for the preparation of specifications, to the end that the necessary and desirable features of road construction and paving may be satisfactorily combined with practical methods and limitations of construction;
- To facilitate greater uniformity in the interpretation of specification and contracts;
- To permit co-operation and better understanding between contractors, engineers, and owners;
- To facilitate the interchange and rental of machinery and equipment among members of the Association, and to establish terms and conditions of such interchange and rental;
- To facilitate the collective purchasing of materials, machinery, repair parts, etc., and securing where possible agency rates and privileges;
- To promote better understanding and good will of the public relations with contractors;
- To maintain the best standards of construction and business methods among members of the Association.
